VIC SMITH TUESDAY NIGHT TRIALS
Series Six
September 5, 2023 –September 12- September 19,2023 September 26 2023
CHECK IN:
All boats must check in with the race committee on VHF channel “71” before 1745 hours., on the night of the race. The race committee will make an announcement on VHF channel “71”when they are on station and ready for check-ins around 1730 hrs. Please NO check INS during the starting sequences! R/C will be on station at the south Playa del Rey jetty opposite the green return light on the detached break wall. The “wake up” will be at 17:49.30 hours and signaled from the race committee by sound and VHF radio, channel 71. The race will end at 2000 hours! Those boats that do not finish the race will be scored a; DNF. The race committee may shorten the race due to weather and will make announcements on VHF radio, channel “71” before the wake-up call. WE ASKS THAT AFTER YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE RACE, PLEASE STAY CLEAR OF THE FINISH LINE ALLOWING OTHER COMPETITORS TO FINISH. WHEN CHECKING IN LET THE R/C IF YOU PLAN ON USING A SPINNAKER SAIL FOR THIS SERIES.
ORDER OF STARTS:
There will be three classes, (A)=Performance Class, (B)=Cruising Class-A and (C)=Cruising Class-B. (A) Class will start at 17:55 hours, (B) will start at 18:00 hours and (C) will start at 18:05 hours. If you do not start with your class, you will be scored by R/C a, DNC.
Your start is based on your PHRF rating and will go as follows:
(A): 033 to 100.
(B): 101 to 160.
(C): 161 to xxx.
SCORING:
The race committee will use atomic time on PHRF Time over Time. This is our regular race season so there will be awards given out for this series. Trophies are awarded as follows: 1st place, 2nd place for all classes. Overall winners have two awards given one for 1st and 2nd Place along with perpetual trophy at the end of our season for all classes at our annual awards party. Results will be sent out via electronic mail within 24 hours after the event.
START & FINISH LINE:
The starting line will be an imaginary straight line between the orange flag off the south Ballona Creek Jetty (aka Playa del Rey Jetty) and the green return navigation light on the south side entrance of the detached break wall.
The finish line will be a straight line from the green return light on the south side entrance of the detached break wall and the orange flag off the south Ballona Creek Jetty (aka Playa del Rey Jetty).
COURSE:
CLASS {A}: From the start line at the south entrance of the harbor go to Virtual mark (33’57.008 -118-29.778) rounding it to starboard and the Virtual mark (33,57.548-118-28.094) rounding it to starboard then head to the south entrance of the harbor to finish line at the south entrance of the harbor. (4.0 NM)
CLASS [B] & [C]: From the start line at the south entrance of the harbor go to Virtual mark (33’57.188 -118-29.217) rounding it to starboard and the Virtual mark (33,57.548-118-28.094) rounding it to starboard then head to the south entrance of the harbor to finish line at the south entrance of the harbor. (3.0. NM)
If the race committee decides to shorten the course because of wind conditions, they will make an announcement on VHF Channel “71” for each class. The course will be announced on VHF “71” during the starting sequences:
COURSE A: From the start line at the south entrance of the harbor go to Virtual mark (33’57.188 -118-29.217) rounding it to starboard and the Virtual mark (33,57.548-118-28.094) rounding it to starboard then head to the south entrance of the harbor to finish line at the south entrance of the harbor. (3.0. NM)
COURSE B: From the start line at the south entrance of the harbor go to the Virtual mark (33,57.368 118-28.656) rounding it to starboard and the Virtual mark (33-57.548 118-28.094) rounding it to starboard and then head to the finish line at the south entrance of the harbor. (2.0 NM)
